stop john green: The Thing About John Green fans...

dontstopjohngreening:

stopjohngreen:

They’re just as sad and pathetic as One Direction, or Justin Bieber fans. Entirely blinded by their obsession with some guy just because they don’t know any better than they can’t even recognize when there are things wrong with him.

Newsflash for you, Nerdfighters. John Green is sexist. If you…

What’s wrong with being a fan of something/someone, whether it’s a fan of John Green, Justin Bieber, politics, communism whatever or whomever it is doesn’t matter. People can like what they like and who are you to say that what they’re a friend of is “sad and pathetic”. With your logic anyone that is a fan of you is sad and pathetic, entirely blinded with their obsession of you because they don’t know better or even recognize what’s wrong with you.

And what’s your rational for John Green being “sexist”. If you’re going to make claims like that you need to back it up, not just saying that they evidence will come. That’s like the Surgeon General saying that clean and sanitary water is why there is a obesity problem in the West. But don’t worry, the evidence will come. If you make a claim, you need to back it up to allow for an intelligent debate on the subject. Right now, you sound like one of those “fans” who you so clearly despise. You’re hatred for someone and a community has make you blinded with your obsession of making people feel bad about themselves because of what they enjoy.

If John Green is not in his place to give advice to teenage girls then you’re not in your place to give me advice about who I can and cannot be a fan of, or who I should listen to in terms of advice. Just because you may not agree with the advice that he gives doesn’t mean that everyone else disagrees with it. To some people, the advice he gives is beneficial, because they’re getting it from someone they trust. And for that matter, why aren’t you creating a tumblr against Lady Gaga who tells the people who go to their concerts that it is important to be themselves?

One of the most important rules I learned about making an argument (and I must say I feel I do an adequate job being a 3rd year university student, otherwise how am I able to consistently get A-‘s on my essays?), is to not make generalizations. You make a very big one claiming that the people who read John Green’s novels do not read books by women. My first problem with that is how do you know what books I read, what subject matter these books are and who the authors are? You don’t, and because of that it leads to my second problem your clear generalization of the gender of authors people read.
